On September 22, 2017, training “Women - Leaders of Changes in Local Communities” took place for the representatives of Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts. 25 activists of the mentioned above oblasts representing local self-governmental bodies, local governmental bodies, and non-governmental organizations and movements of 9 cities, towns and villages, participated in the event.

The decisive feature of this training was vivid discussion on the problem of proliferation of domestic violence (especially in the form of physical abuse) towards both women and children-inhabitants of Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts. This issue becomes even more urgent in the context of the discourse surrounding the ratification of Istanbul Convention, as practice shows that efforts of activists of local civil society organizations cannot solve it.

In addition to this, as one of the key means of prevention of violation of women's rights at all levels was determined the elimination of stereotypes towards women in the society; and first and foremost women themselves should abandon them as in Ukrainian society prevail the principle that in the event of discrimination on the basis of sex the victim must prove the existence of an offense concerning her or him by herself or himself.
